HOPE for Grade 7's

The HOPE for grade 7’s promotes resiliency amongst our youth ages eleven to thirteen years old. Resiliency is the ability to overcome obstacles. There are many very real obstacles in that youth face today as they make their way through the terrain of modern day adolescence. The question of how to support our youth has been answered by many different strategies and approaches. The HOPE program interacts with youth through the perspective of prevention. This project equips our youth with the tools they need to keep themselves safe from harm.

The focus of this program is not on the specific obstacles that they may or may not meet; the focus of this program to educate, motivate and facilitate youth’s understanding of the power of making personal choices. This programs runs for the school year and we involve older youth from our Prevention programs for adolescents to act as teen mentors. The mentors establish trusting relationships with the grade 7 youth in order to provide a safe support next year when they enter the high school off island.
